In our fabulous new weekly series blog posts we have reserved Fridays for, you guessed it, fashion! I may slip a Fitness Friday in there occasionally but predominately this slot will be all about Fashion and particularly Wedding Fashion. We have recruited some help from one of our favorite Bridal Boutiques in the industry, Bella Donna Bridal Salon.
Nicole Pikios, Store Manager of Bella Donna Bridal Salon has agreed to give some input on Fashion Fridays. As many of you know, The Memory Journalists shares studio space with Bella Donna Bridal. We love the store and all the fabulous girls over there. So, a shout out to all our BDB girls! We love you and we're so thankful to be in the industry with you. A special thanks to Nicole who agreed to pass along fashion tips for us to share with you, our readers. Jennifer or I will be chiming in with our own personal experience on each subject. Please read on.....
Bella Donna Bridal Salon is located at:

Nicole's tip this week for all you brides-to-be is "when it comes to your wedding dress you should always keep an open mind when looking at gowns. Never judge a dress on its hanger. It may be a different fit than what you think by glancing at it on the rack. Remember, it is all about how you feel in the dress. No matter how well the dress fits your body type, you have to feel beautiful in it!"
So think outside the box ladies. Don't be married to a certain style because you like it. Try a few you may not have thought of before you started shopping. You will glow in the dress that is right for you and you will know it when you find it. "Maybe" means "No" when it comes to wedding dresses just like it does when it comes to Mr. Right. |

Jennifer shared her own personal wedding dress shopping experience with me and I wanted to pass it along to our readers as it couldn't be more relevant to this post!
"I went into this hole in the wall bridal boutique. (This was after I had gone to Burlingame 3 times and shopped all over, around and just outside of Sacramento.) I was thumbing through the racks and saw this dark cream colored dress, Halter style, in a bag....which is how all their dress were hung..in bags. I had to open each bag's zipper....peer in...and then close the zipper and move on to the next dress. I came across this halter dress. It caught my attention but I thought, "who tries on halter dresses?!?!?" I looked at the back and wow! It seemed to have an odd back...it was VELCRO!!!! this gigantic CATHEDRAL length train velcro'd off (if you don't know what a Cathedral length train is, look it up, it was humongous! You can see me pointing at how long the train is in one of the below photos. Beneath this huge train was this AWESOME tulle that just flowed between the V split back. The lace on the front was fantastic, a larger lace floral pattern. The dress was 4 sizes too big and 4 years old in model. But, when I tried it on (w/o the train), my BFF Kerry cried. It was THE dress. Being a creative person, I knew I could make this dress PERFECT for me and my wedding day. The dress was super inexpensive. The alterations cost more than the dress. I changed it to a sweetheart strapless dress (which by the way adding boning to a strapless dress can add the confidence that it will stay up). I used the lace to create a choker necklace. And I added more lace appliques to the tulle in the back at random places. It was as close to my dream dress as I was going to get without creating it from scratch. I shouldn't admit this but I spent less than $400. It was my perfect dress." |

| So many of you have seen Rachel and Anne, and even Emily in our fashion shoots for Bella Donna Bridal. We have so much fun with the Andrews sisters that this time we included one more! Meet Rebekah! |

I just love how these images turned out! I couldn't ever ask for better models - except next time we're adding in Rebekah and Kate! I was reading a post by Rach (one of our models) that she shared today...and it seems so appropriate with this shoot:
I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing; kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day, and I believe in miracles. ~Audrey Hepburn

I just love these three girls...and mom too (the entire family if you really must know)! I can't wait to show you what we did last week. It was freaking amazing! And in between scares of the skies opening up and dumping buckets of rain...thankfully we've worked so much together now that we have our shoots down to a science. I know Martha has been waiting patiently for a sneak peak...and there will be more to come I promise!
The beautiful Ms. Em... The amazing Ms. Anne... And the gorgeous Rach... |

Here is the entire fashion shoot we did last Friday. Well...at least most everything. This was Nicole's first day shooting and I think she did superb. And Anne not only modeled but was shooting as well. This slideshow encompasses some shots from everyone...since that's just how we roll (my new favorite saying!) Thanks to all the girls (and guy!) you came out to help create some great images and to make our next ad and Bella Donna's next ad choice very difficult. Thanks to Bella Donna Bridal and Blooms by Martha Andrews for supplying the dresses and the flowers. And a big thank you to Linda for loaning us the use of your beautiful home. It truly is an oasis!
Click the below image to start the slideshow. Disclaimer: none of the girls (and guy) who participated in our shoot are professional models. They are real people who just love to do a bit of showing off and we love to work with them! Someday...maybe we can say we discovered a famous model. |
