Cory and I met up for engagement session #2 with Sharon and Mike at High Hand Nursery in Loomis California. I've photographed there before and I knew it was absolutely gorgeous. Michelle gave us the go ahead to take photographs after hours.
I love the glass artwork that they sell for gardens. Aren't these amazing? |

The nursery itself is so awesome. I wish I had a green thumb - it might make we want to buy some of these. But I have no green thumb at all, so instead I just prefer taking some photographs to share.

Sharon and Mike didn't need much encouragement to play and have fun. We saw the little wagons and away we went!

The green walled building was a perfect backdrop. I would love to live in a house such as this.

Mike was showing off his height superiority.

And showing off Sharon's beautiful engagement ring!

See no evil, speak no evil....hear no evil.

I think this is my most favorite photo of the whole night!

The train was coming by just as we were almost done. And the flag seemed so fitting since both Mike and Sharon served in our military.

Okay, I lied, this may just my favorite photo of the entire night. :-)

To start the game out, Sharon and Mike had to determine who went first. Rock, Paper, Scissors was employed and Sharon landed as the winner.

First hole. Smiles were still in abundance. No one was winning yet - as the score card was blank.

As we had to wait for the group to finish up in front of us, we snapped a few fun photos.

Sharon's Hello Kitty tattoo is a storm trooper to show off Sharon's love of Star Wars. Wait until you see what is planned for their Halloween Wedding.

Mike must have attempted this hole at least 4 times before he got that silly ball into the center hole on top. You can see the golf ball (orange) at about 11 o'clock from the center of the hole....just before it slid back down to him. :-)

I'm so happy we have the clients we do. This year is no exception. We really are having a blast getting to know each couple. Mike is a bit of a ham and while we waited for the group to finish in front of us again, here he was dropping to one knee to once again ask Sharon to marry him, in front of the crowd waiting behind us. Maybe Mike was begging Sharon to let up on her extraordinary miniature golf skills.

I love this photo. Sharon was in the "power" position as she was winning. I think at this point we had just finished the hole (see above) where Mike had drummed up a lot of extra shots. I think a little break was needed. :-)

After golf was over, where Mike came back to win by 1 stroke, we headed inside to play some Arcade games. Sharon and Mike during their early dating days used to play Dance Dance Revolution...a lot.

It was amazing to watch these two compete against each other.

Our last stop of the night was playing guitars. Sharon wore her sunglasses to get into her role. I think this is my favorite photo of the night!

Susan and Mark are both super fun and up for anything. And Susan had so many ideas for their engagement photos - I was so excited to hear about some of her props (read why props are fun!). She wanted to spend time with their dogs, be able to dress up and dress down, and find some cool architecture. Well I spent a week scouring the streets of Sacramento attempting to find some "new" places that had some different architectural elements, and revisited a few old ones.
A few days ago I posted a sneak peak photos from Susan and Mark's Sacramento engagement session. I briefly mentioned that there was a story to this photo. Well the short version of the story goes....we spent an evening together over dinner, photographed in several locations, and had a fabulous time. As soon as got home, Cory mentioned to me "Aren't Susan and Mark getting married in July 2011?" Well of course they are, I exclaim. Why do you ask? Well the sign Susan creatively had drawn to use in the picture for the save the date said 2010. Oh No! Susan and Mark realized the mistake that same night. Susan was so disappointed. Two nights later, we did our second engagement session to fix the mistake that none of us even realized. :-) And the best thing....we had even more fun on the 2nd evening.
This first image was from our first photo engagement session. |

This is Bentley and Oliver. Aren't they super cute?!

On our second evening engagement session, Susan made up a few more chalk boards. I love her creativity.

These might just be my favorites!

Mark came running up behind Susan surprising her as he picked her up and twirled her around.

Mark is such a fun guy and kept surprising all of us with his quick moves.

Doesn't this next photo make you want to know what the heck Mark just said to Susan?

We are wanting to do less and less posed photos, and just more time with our clients, letting them just be themselves. In this next photo, we did "stage" this photo...heck I'm a girl and know how important it is to show off that new engagement ring.

From our first session. Any guesses as to the joke?

I just love the painting like quality of this next photo. Susan and Mark looked like they were just dropped in front of a backdrop. Any guesses where this photo was taken?

We had such a blast. I can't wait for Mark and Susan's wedding next July...yes that is July 2011.

A few weeks ago, Kirsten and I photographed David and Darleen's engagement photos in Davis California at the Davis Arboretum. When I first asked David and Darleen about possible locations, I asked them what they like to do together. They told me they like to be outdoors. They like to spend the day together driving around and looking at new places. It turned out that they had not been to the Davis Arboretum and our plan was born.
I was able to scope out some locations before they arrived and I had already picked out some specific gardens within the Arboretum. This is probably one of my favorite spots of the entire evening. It's within the Australian Collection. |

Darleen was so cute and revealed that she had bought a new dress for our evening together. I was glad that I could give her an excuse for some new clothes! And a smart girl - wearing the cutest flats.

As we continued walking, we went through the Redwood Grove. There were picnic tables interspersed within the "forest". If you are ever in need of feeling like you are out in the middle of the forest and want to get away....it's so close to travel to the Davis Arboretum.

Darleen is my height (well maybe a little taller) but on the short side. And David towers over all of us. I just love this next image. It says so much about their relationship.

As Carie went through all the photos with me, she just loves this next photo and the way that Darleen was gazing up at David.

David decided to plant a big kiss on Darleen!

As we walked into the roadway to get further away, I asked Darleen and David to be on the watch out for cars (so we wouldn't get run over) and to warn us when cars were coming. In this photo, you can almost see them mouth the word "CAR" simultaneously.

At the Wyatt Deck we stopped for a quick break and to have a little fun practicing their first dance since we had the entire deck to ourselves.

As we entered the East Asian Collection, we found the area almost empty....except the hundreds of ducks that seemed to know we were the only people around for miles and followed us as soon as we got close enough.

We had such a good time. I highly recommend walking through the Davis Arboretum if you never have done so. It's so beautiful!

There is a story to this engagement picture. But I will wait to tell it. I just wanted to share this image with both Susan and Mark as it turned out so fabulous!
Love you guys! More to come in the next week or two. |
